The play ‘The Iron Mask and the Musketeer’ takes us back to 1708 Paris, where Saint-Mars, a former musketeer turned jailer of the Bastille, is interrogated by a journalist eager to discover the truth about the mysterious prisoner in the iron mask. In a captivating monologue, Saint-Mars reveals his life, his adventures and the secrets surrounding this enigmatic prisoner. Alain Veniger’s sober, immersive direction, combined with Donat Guibert’s performance, plunges the audience into an atmosphere that is both fantastic and disturbing, offering a fresh perspective on this complex figure from the time of Louis XIV.
